"I really appreciated your article on Negotiating Salaries. It never ceases to amaze me how the most basic concepts, such as "Hmmm" escape us during decision making moments. Simple concepts and basic principles are the most helpful tips we can share with one another. We'd all experience less stress and gain in every area if only we actively remembered, and made use of, the simple concepts and basic principles related to any given situation. I am kicking myself as we speak for not saying "Hmmm" to my last job offer in which I took a $6,000/yr (7%) decrease in pay because I really wanted the job. It wasn't until later that I found out I was chosen for the position out of over 100, yes one hundred, applicants. I think it's safe to say I had some bargaining room! I know I'm exceptionally good at what I do, have eight years of experience, interview well, have 2 BA's which I earned in four years instead of the usual five or six years, and I'm only 29 years old. BUT I forgot the simple concept of "Hmmm" for which it will take me years to make up for in merit increases or hours of extra effort to generate greater bonuses. DUH! Please excuse me while I go kick myself in private." Return to "Anyone Can Negotiate Their Salary--THIS MEANS YOU!" by Jack Chapman.
